After using a pre-production model of the Fujifilm X-Pro1 in late February 2012 (to shoot some promotional images for their Canadian product launch), one accessory for this camera system caught my interest. Fujifilm provided me with the X-Pro1 Hand Grip (B&H – Amazon – Adorama) and I did not think I would use it much – and I ended up using it all of the time and eventually bought one for myself.
Why did I like it so much?
It is not very big (you cannot put an extra battery in it like other grips) and adds about 1 cm to the camera’s height. Also, it is 102 grams, so it does not add much additional weight. The camera body on its own has a nice feeling in your hand, but when you have the grip attached, it makes the X-Pro1 camera body extremely comfortable to hold. On top of that, fit and finish are excellent and it matches the X-Pro1 perfectly.
The other thing I like about the grip is that the tripod mount on the bottom is located in the centre – which is great as on the bottom camera plate, this mount is annoyingly located next to the battery compartment (i.e. off centre). You do have to remove the grip, however, if you wish to change the NP-W126 battery (B&H – Amazon – Adorama) or SD card.
At about $100.00 (in the USA, price may differ elsewhere), it is a great addition to your X-Pro1.
